French as a Foreign Language
The aim of the course of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) is to
prepare Non-French speaking students to:
- integrate into a class so that they can follow an entire curriculum at Champittet, or,
- take an examination to get an official language certificate or diploma (Alliance Française, DELF, …), if possible by validating their academic year in their own country.
FLE students are divided into two categories:
- students who follow FLE course on a regular basis (maximum 8-10 students)
- students who are integrated into “regular” classes and take FLE lessons a few hours a week.
This option allows them to:
- gain knowledge in other subjects be better integrated into the
- group
- be intensively immersed in the French language
400 hours of French lessons as well as the immersion into the language spoken in the boarding school, allow for a complete beginner taking a special FLE course to aim at a B2 level (common European framework of reference for languages). FLE students who are interested in pursuing their studies at Champittet may partially join “regular” classes during the year if they pass an examination, which requirements are at the level of the International Baccalaureate.
Grade 9 students who followed the special FLE course for a whole year may continue their curriculum in Pre-Bac grade 10 only if they pass the B2 level examination. Should he/she wish to pursue their studies at the Maturité level, they will have to repeat grade 9 following the Maturité program in all the required subjects.
